Yayoi Kusama
In this installation, Fireflies on the Water, Yayoi Kusama makes the illusion of nature with mirrors, water and 150 lights. The mirrors create the sensation of endless space and when one looks at these images they get the feeling of being outside of this world. Though she is famous for her dot art, this installation really blew me away. If you happen to be in New York this summer, her work is on exhibit at the Whitney Museum until September. Do you call them fireflies or lightening bugs? I grew up with everyone calling lightening bugs but I prefer fireflies.
