Photo Friday with Guy Batey
Guy Batey’s “The Melancholy of Objects” is a series of portraits of objects that were discarded or left behind in London. Though only inanimate objects, the way these pieces have been tossed aside, often damaged or broken, imbues the reader with inexplicable sadness. Batey leaves us wondering where the skateboard rider is, the snowman’s builder, the pianist, and if they will return. He makes us momentarily forget that these are just objects, and that a broom leaning on a wall is not actually anything to be sad about.
