Matt Wheeldon

In his work, Matt Wheeldon explores the role that recent technological developments play in our everyday lives. As Wheeldon describes his interest in technology,

I see the most important development being the screen and the projected image, be it smart phones or TV screens. Through dismantling and exploring the make up of these technologies I try to create artworks, often questioning preconceived ideas about how they work.”

His most recent work looks at the mineral makeups of LCD screens, using the crystal structures of key minerals to influence the creation of towers of LCD screens, hoping to ask questions of what makes these everyday objects but with use of a tower to ask where they are going and how all modern technologies are connected, a 21st century tower of babel.
